Basketball is one of my favorite sports. Basketball was invented by a Canadian man named James Naismith in 1891 when he was trying to keep his gym class busy on a rainy day. He came up with the sport within two weeks. Basketball sport became an international game with in few years of span and made debut in Olympic sports in 1936, 3 years after his death.
There are two teams that play and in each team there are about 9-10 players. Only 5 players are allowed on the court and everyone takes turns. The 5 positions where the players play are point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward, and center. The coach switches players every quarter so every teammate can play. Every basketball game has 4 quarters and each quarter is 12 minutes so in total the whole game is 48 minutes. With fouls, ball out of bounds, and timeouts, or a 15 minutes halftime a typical game would be 2-2.5 hours.
The most important rules in basketball are, you must have one hand on the ball and dribble at all times. Another rule is the player can only dribble for one turn but if they dribble stop dribble it is called a double dribble. It would be a foul. The next rule is that the ball should always stay in bound but if it goes out of bound the other team has control over the ball. The 5th rule is that if once the offensive team crosses the backcourt they may not enter into the backcourt. It is called backcourt violation. There are many more rules in basketball.
The simple and fun way to play basketball is just to get a ball of the appropriate size that will fit in the net and then brake into two teams and make hoops and score by dribbling and passing to teammates. Basketball is a fun game and maybe you should try playing it too.
